FX Updater user guide
Updated November 8, 2026
FX Updater automatically updates currency exchange rates in your Spire ERP system using daily rates from the Bank of Canada.
Getting Started
Open FX Updater in your browser at the address your administrator gave you. Your Gemini Logic consultant handles installation and setup.
You will land on the Settings page. No subscription is needed to configure connections and currency mappings. A subscription is only required to run automatic syncing.
Step 1: Add a Spire Connection
-
On the Settings page, find the Spire Connections card.
-
Click Add Connection.
-
Fill in the connection details:
Field Description Example Display Name A friendly name for this company Acme CorporationAPI Base URL The Spire server address and port https://spire-server:10880Spire Company Name The company name as it appears in Spire acmeAPI Username A Spire user with API access apiuserAPI Password The password for the API user Year End Month Your fiscal year-end month December -
Click Add Connection.
-
Click the Test button next to your new connection. A success message will confirm connectivity and show the number of currencies found in Spire.
You can add multiple connections if you have more than one Spire company.
Step 2: Set Up Currency Mappings
Currency mappings link a Bank of Canada exchange rate to a currency record in Spire.
Option A: Auto-Map (Recommended)
- Navigate to the Currencies page using the sidebar.
- If you have multiple connections, select the desired connection from the dropdown.
- Click Auto-Map.
FX Updater will automatically create mappings wherever a Bank of Canada currency code matches a Spire currency code (e.g., USD to USD, EUR to EUR). A toast message will show how many mappings were created and how many were skipped (already mapped).
Option B: Add Mappings Manually
-
On the Currencies page, click Add Mapping.
-
Select the Connection from the dropdown.
-
Select the BoC Currency (e.g., USD - US Dollar).
-
Select the matching Spire Currency from the dropdown (fetched live from Spire).
-
Configure the options:
Option Description Default Update Frequency How often to sync this currency Daily Fixed Rate Update the fixed rate field in Spire On This Year Rate Update the current fiscal year period rate On Next Year Rate Update the next fiscal year period rate Off Last Year Rate Update the prior fiscal year period rate Off Enabled Whether this mapping is active On -
Click Create Mapping.
Editing a Mapping
Click the pencil icon next to any mapping to change its frequency, update targets, or enabled status.
Deleting a Mapping
Click the trash icon next to any mapping and confirm.
Sync Now (Manual Sync)
Click the refresh icon next to any mapping to immediately sync that currency. This requires an active subscription.
Step 3: Activate a Subscription
A subscription is required for:
- Automatic scheduled currency syncing
- Manual “Sync Now” for individual currencies
- Reporting usage to Stripe (“Report Now”)
All other features (connections, mappings, audit, billing views) work without a subscription.
Subscribe via Stripe Checkout
- On the Settings page, click Subscribe in the License Status card. Or navigate directly to the Activate page.
- Click Subscribe with Stripe.
- You will be redirected to Stripe’s secure checkout page.
- Complete payment.
- After payment, you are automatically redirected back to FX Updater. Your subscription activates automatically.
- The Settings page will now show your subscription status as Active.
If you already have a subscription and FX Updater doesn’t show it as active, contact Gemini Logic.
Step 4: Configure Global Settings
On the Settings page, scroll to the Global Settings card:
-
Timezone: Select the timezone used for scheduling and local timestamps in the audit trail. The service uses this to determine the correct fiscal period and to schedule the daily billing report at 23:59 local time.
-
Web Password: Optionally enable password protection for the web interface. When enabled, all users must log in before accessing any page. If you forget the password, contact your Gemini Logic consultant to reset it.
Click Save Settings to apply changes.
How Automatic Syncing Works
Once you have an active subscription and enabled currency mappings, FX Updater runs in the background:
- Every 30 seconds, the scheduler checks for mappings that are due for an update.
- It verifies the subscription is active.
- It fetches the latest daily exchange rates from the Bank of Canada.
- For each due mapping, it:
- Reads the current currency record from Spire
- Updates the configured fields (fixed rate, this/next/last year period rates)
- Writes the updated record back to Spire
- Logs the result in the audit trail
- At 23:59 local time each day, it reports the day’s successful updates to Stripe for billing.
If a Spire connection is temporarily unavailable, the service retries once before logging an error. It will try again on the next scheduled cycle.
If the subscription check is temporarily unavailable, a grace period allows syncing to continue while connectivity is restored.
Audit Trail
The Audit page provides a complete history of every currency update.
Viewing Events
- Use the filters at the top to narrow by date range, connection, currency, or success/failure status.
- Click Search to apply filters.
- Click any row to expand and see full details including the event ID, HTTP status, request time, error details, and which rate fields were updated.
Summary Statistics
The top of the page shows:
- Total Events: All-time count
- Successful: Updates that completed without error
- Failed: Updates that encountered an error
- Last 24h: Recent activity count
Exporting
Click Export CSV to download the filtered events as a CSV file suitable for spreadsheets or record-keeping.
Billing
The Billing page shows your usage and billing status.
- Billable Events: Total successful currency updates in the current period.
- Unbilled Events: Updates that have not yet been reported to Stripe (reported automatically at 23:59 daily).
- Last Reported: When the most recent usage report was sent to Stripe.
- Report Now: Manually send a usage report to Stripe without waiting for the scheduled daily report.
The bar chart shows daily update counts for the last 30 days.
Managing Your Subscription
Validate
On the Settings page, click Validate Now to re-check your subscription status with Stripe. This is useful if you’ve made billing changes and want to refresh the status immediately.
Deactivate
Click Deactivate on the Settings page to remove the subscription from FX Updater. The service will stop automatic syncing. Your Spire connections, currency mappings, and audit history are preserved. You can reactivate at any time.
Note: Deactivating in FX Updater does not cancel your Stripe subscription. To cancel billing, manage your subscription directly through Stripe.
